Claire McNicol is originally from Lisburn in Northern Ireland. She began telling stories when she moved to Scotland in 1992, and was lucky enough to learn from the great traveller storytellers such as Duncan Williamson and Stanley Robertson – thus becoming a part of an unbroken line in Scottish oral storytelling.
Claire’s first storytellers were her father and her grandmother and in Orkney she will tell Irish tales and stories that travelled over the sea between lands.
Claire last visited Orkney in the year of the Millennium when she had the privilege to tell stories inside Orkney’s “Millennium Dome”, a felt yurt created in collaboration with children in Orkney that depicted the story of Assipattle and the Stoorworm. She is very much looking forward to the festival this year!
